Students were working on Facebook

Last month was a nice month for Chilean people, because we celebrate our national day on 18th, but actually, we celebrate the whole month... eating.
Anyway, the time went fast, now it is October which means that there are 2 month left to end the year.
So, it has been so busy in these days.

Well, the last thing I have done with my students, was using facebook to give them the chance to write in English. I set 6 topics, and they had to choose 4 of them, and leave some comments with their opinions. You can check their comments on my facebook page.
It is the first time I use the social network, and I think it was interesting for them too.
If you have more ideas about how to use facebook, or even experiences related with this topic, then you can leave your comments.

  1. Hi Julian,
I've had a look at your facebook page. It was a great idea to give your students topics to choose from and to support them with interesting pictures. However, I think it's better to write your task in English.. it looks a bit weird that a teacher writes the task in spanish (it was spanish, wasn't it? :)) and asks the students to comment in english :) .. you could write in both languages maybe?
    All the best,
    Helen O.

    P.S. I've sent you a message on facebook with a present - a book by busyteacher.org site that i've just won :))

  2. Yes, actually you are right, it was supposed to be in English, but considering that it was the first time I used facebook, the time was short and I didn't want to make them feel scared to English, and considering that I wanted to evaluate writing not reading, I just wrote in Spanish, yes ti was spanish. Although, as you say, it could be in both languages. The problem is that few can understand fast, so I want them to know the topic very clear, and then they can write ideas in English. It was just the first time, I will improve (you must know I am still learning how to use facebook) By the way, thanks for the book, I was reading it and already taking some ideas.
